Graded Cards

1952 Topps Mickey Mantle PSA 8Professionally graded sports cards is the process of having a sports card looked at by a professional grader and determined its condition. Once the condition has been determined the card is then placed in a seal tight case and labeled. This insures the cards condition for the current owner and future owners. The cards are serialized by the company grading the card and can be verified of its authenticity usually by going to the web site of the grading company and using the serial number on the card. It is no longer enough to say 'my card is MINT', PSA has to say it's MINT! Getting your favorite sports cards slabbed (graded) as it is commonly known is as common as buying a wax pack at the grocery store. There are many companies available today who will happily grade your cards for you for a small fee. The most popular of these companies is PSA and Beckett. PSA started the craze and still carries a premium over the other companies. GAI and SGC are two other popular grading companies. If you decide to send your cards in to get graded or if you just decide to buy cards that have already been slabbed, you can rest assure that your card will increase in value depending on the grade it receives and remain in the condition it was graded. Below is a grading chart used to convert each companies grades.
