Tommy Byrne was signed by the New York Yankees as an amateur free agent in 1940 and made his major league debut on the pitching mound for the Yankees in 1943. Tommy played for the Yankees for 6 seasons his first stint in New York, winning 15 games on 2 occasions and was an All Star in 1950. For the next 4 seasons, Tommy bounced around from the St. Louis Browns, Chicago White Sox and Washington Senators before ending up back in a Yankee uniform in 1954. Tommy won a career high 16 games in 1955 and helped the Yankees win the World Series in 1956. Tommy was a better than average hitter, especially for a pitcher, belting 14 career home runs with 98 RBIs. He won a total of 85 games, lost 69 with an ERA of 4.11 in 13 seasons.
