John Joseph Anderson was born December 14, 1873 in Sarpsborg, Norway. Anderson was a speedy outfielder with decent power. He made his major league debut playing for the Brooklyn Grooms in 1894. He was traded to the Washington Senators in 1898 and led the league in Triples (22) and slugging percentage (.494). Anderson played 14 seasons in the big leagues; 6 with Brooklyn, 3 with Washington AL, 3 with the St Louis Browns, 2 with the New York Highlanders (Yankees), 1 with the Washington Senators in the NL and 1 with the Chicago White Socks. Anderson had a career batting average of .290 with 50 career HRs and 978 RBIs. Anderson final big league season was in 1908 with the Senators. He played one more season in the minor leagues before retiring in 1909. Anderson died on July 23, 1949 in Worcester, MA. He is buried in the Swedish Cemetery in Worcester.
